OSPF (Open Shortest Path First)

What is OSPF?

OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) is a powerful dynamic routing protocol used to find the best path for data within large networks. Unlike RIP (which counts hops), OSPF uses the shortest path first algorithm (Dijkstra’s Algorithm) to determine the fastest and most efficient route.

  • Type: Link-State Routing Protocol
  • Layer: Works at Layer 3 (Network Layer)
  • Metric: Uses cost (based on bandwidth) instead of hop count
